PRP injections for hair loss

Most people think hair loss requires either an invasive hair transplant procedure or that there’s nothing they can do about it. Luckily, advances in science have provided a more accessible solution for men and women experiencing thinning, balding, or other types of hair loss.

If you’re considering a hair transplant as a solution to your hair loss, PRP Hair Loss Treatment in Melbourne offers a non-surgical solution for hair loss. You will be able to maintain results after the procedure. In some cases, PRP Hair Treatment can even replace the need for a hair transplant.

How does PRP Treat Hair Loss?

At our hair loss clinic in Melbourne, our hair specialists are experts in PRP hair treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair loss treatments use the growth factors from your platelets to stimulate growth and rejuvenation in your skin cells and hair follicles. PRP has been used for decades in Melbourne to aid with various forms of healing and regeneration from soft-tissue injuries, chronic tendon pain, arthritis and more.

More recently, PRP has been recognised as an effective therapy to help treat the early onset of hair loss, a common yet deeply personal condition.

Getting Started With PRP Hair Treatment

After your free consultation to discuss if PRP hair treatment is the right fit for you, our qualified Melbourne-based hair specialists will begin by taking a sample of your blood. This sample is then placed in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the platelets and plasma, producing a powerhouse substance packed with proteins and growth nutrients.

We take this nutrient-rich sample and inject it into the areas of concern using PRP micro-needling, delivering them directly to the hair follicles or skin cells we want to target for regeneration.

Types of hair PRP and PRF can treat

PRP and PRF hair treatments can work in areas with hair follicles that may be sparse or thinning.

We often work with clients to support hair growth on their heads, eyebrows, and beards.

It’s a safe, affordable and non-invasive alternative to costly hair transplant surgery, and the first step towards a more confident you.

What’s the difference between PRP and PRF?

        PRP Hair

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is created by taking one tube of blood and spun in the centrifuge at such a high speed that the plasma layer is entirely separated from the rest of the blood cells. This results in a rich substance concentrated with platelets and is then injected into the hair follicle to stimulate hair regrowth.

PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, is the most advanced solution in Australia. It is created by taking two tubes of blood which are spun at a lower speed, allowing the platelet layer to retain white blood cells, fibrin and stem-cells. PRF injections can be 10 times more concentrated than PRP and offer a slower-acting release of growth factors for enhanced results.

Your skin specialist will discuss suitable options for your circumstances.

        Comparison Table: PRP Vs PRF

        Aspect PRP PRF
Composition Plasma enriched with platelets Fibrin matrix containing platelets
Preparation Centrifugation at higher speed to separate plasma and platelets Centrifugation at lower speed with natural coagulation process
Platelet Concentration Moderate to high sustained release over time with up to 10x higher platelets concentration
        Fibrin Presence Absent Present
Healing Properties Promotes tissue regeneration and repair Enhanced wound healing, tissue growth, and angiogenesis
Application Widely used in various medical and cosmetic procedures Increasingly used in cosmetic procedures, dental, orthopedic, and wound healing applications
Cost Generally less expensive Slightly more expensive due to specialised equipment and preparation method
Duration of Effects May require multiple treatments for sustained effects Effects may last longer due to sustained release of growth factors

These differences influence the suitability of each treatment for different conditions and patient needs. Your hair and skin specialist will discuss which option is best for you based on your unique circumstances.
